about

The lyrics of 'All is Clear' were written in Stockholm in a small hotel, hanging around waiting to start work one morning... the title is a play on words from the Christmas carol, Silent Night (this was just before Christmas 2010) and the song is about the pointlessness of not taking risks in your life because in the end, life does not last that long anyway.

And that avoiding risks is a privilege of being rich. If you are poor, avoiding risk is harder and you are much more likely not to survive your 'full term'. Our survivors of disease - and our wars - are heroes. The poor caught in the middle of war get no medals - except the miracle of their own survival... unitl the next time.

One thing about Coil is that we like lots of different sounds... so we make danceable pop tracks and acoustic folky tracks and jug band murder ballads... not on purpose - we just do what we like. All is clear is a classic dance track from Phil Dann and it just cried out for a great vocal - Paul Johnstone features here just after he joined the band in early 2010 and started to make a difference to our song writing with his high, clear voice. All is clear...

lyrics

You spend your life keeping out of trouble,
Minimising all those risks.
Chasing fortune, hoping to get lucky,
Til the endgame comes.

The wind that blew through your convictions,
Hit me with both fists.
Up to her knees in the paddy fields,
The medal less survivor of the wars.

All is clear,
All is bright,
In the silent night.

All is clear,
All is bright.

Look into the future,
Til the endgame comes.

In the silent night,
silent night.

All is clear,
All is bright,
In the silent night.

All is clear,
All is bright.
In the silent night… (to end)
