about

A tale from King’s Heath estate in Northampton and the life behind the curtains. This song upset some people – so different from the prog and rock mullet ethos of the time. When we ‘won’ the competition in 1978 we were asked to do another song – and we did this. The only other song we had written.

Phil and Tone had played this Doors like piece to me and I guess they didn’t expect this – less ‘the end’, more ‘the end away’ –a tawdry tale from our own experience - not a mystical reference in sight.

lyrics

Dirty Photographer

I used to be a dirty photographer
Taking shots of my girlfriend’s dirty bits.
I’d sell them cheap in the Grosvenor centre,
Lurid views of her fanny and tits.

But now I’m sitting in the nick,
With five years still left to do,
Sometimes I think I never should have done it,
And then I think of all those pictures of you.

You used to pose in a tiger-skin bikini,
Up the trees, up Harlestone firs,
And on the settee nearly bollock naked,
With just a g-string made of nylon fur.

But now I’m sitting in the nick,
With five years still left to do,
Sometimes I think I never should have done it,
Then I think of all those pictures of you.

Legs and thighs and bum and belly button
Zooming out and zooming in
Upside down and hanging from the curtains,
Just the thought makes my head spin.

But in the end they bloody caught me,
I got my nose rubbed in the dirt.
I was hiding half way down a manhole
Taking photos up traffic wardens’ skirts.

I used to be a dirty photographer
Taking shots of my girlfriend’s dirty bits.
I’d sell them cheap in the Grosvenor centre,
Lurid views of her fanny and tits.

But now I’m sitting in the nick,
With five years still left to do,
Sometimes I think I never should have done it,
Then I think of all those pictures of you.
