about

The Too Much Club was in the Racecourse Pavilion in Northampton around 1964-65. It was THE soul club, the absolute place to go. No alcohol so you could go at 13, but lots of speed. The favourite drug was Green and Clear and this was the fuel that made the club great. And testosterone and Sam and Dave. The ‘she’ in the song is Suzanne Whelan.

This live recording at a John Peel road show is Phil Dann at his wild best. He works Soul Finger by the Bar-Kays into the long break and all the passion and paranoia of the great Too Much Club. And Curtoise’s drums hold it down.

Look out for Green and Clear on Nessuno a Piace un Cervellone - and Kafkatina too…

lyrics

Green and Clear

Soul music at the Too Much club tonight.
Oh Danny could you be there?
Blue amphetamine grin for you,
But could he see you through?

Something special in the air
(Green and clear)
I can feel it everywhere
It’s in my mind.
(Repeat)

She moves into her body like a glove,
Over to the dance floor.
Ultra violet kisses blow
He couldn’t help but know.

Soul music is the trigger of the gun.
They’re falling for each other.
Ultra violet kisses blow
He couldn’t help but know.
Something special in the air ….

Something special in the air
(Green and clear)
I can feel it everywhere
It’s in my mind.
(Repeat)

Something special in the air
(Green and clear)
I can feel it everywhere
It’s in my mind.
(Repeat)
