about

The definitive counterpoint Coil – right across drums, bass and guitar and the vocal following and playing off the bass line. 8 track recording at Beck studio, Wellingborough. We saved up. Coil'sonly vinyl single release on wood Hill records (with Alcoholstaark). on Wood Hill records - now very rare. Jello Biafra bought most of them from John Peel.

Inspired by my grandfather’s experience of working in the foundry at Ford’s in Dagenham and my first mother-in-law saying, 'What’s wrong with working in the motor industry?' My first father-in-law worked in British Leyland in Oxford. Nothing wrong with it if you have to… except my Granddad saying never, never work in here, it’s hell. 120°F all day and the filthy taste of burning steel in your mouth.

lyrics

Motor Industry

When I see your mother in the street,
I get a filthy taste in my mouth.

(Marina)
She got a job for me,
(Marina)
In the motor industry.

Sweating like a Viva up a tree,
As the sparks hits the ceiling.

(Marina)
She got a job for me,
(Marina)
In the motor industry.

Come to the country!

Oh, come now lad…
The work ain’t that bad!

(Why don’t you?)
Why don’t you take me to the bathroom?
(Why don’t you?)
Why don’t you lead me up the stairs?
(Why don’t you?)
We’ll get away from this.

(Oh Marina)
Surely you can’t?
(Oh Marina)
Surely you can’t miss?

Follow the messiah,
He is the new radiator!

(Marina)
He got a job for me,
(Marina)
In the motor industry.

Universal mover of machines,
In the cathedral of power.

(Marina)
He got a job for me,
(Marina)
In the motor industry.

Come to the country!

Oh come now boys and girls…

(Why don’t you?)
Why don’t you take me to the bathroom?
(Why don’t you?)
Why don’t you lead me up the stairs?
(Why don’t you?)
We’ll get away from this.

(Oh Marina)
Surely you can’t?
(Oh Marina)
Surely you can’t miss?

Follow the messiah,
He is the new radiator!

(Marina)
He got a job for me,
(Marina)
In the motor industry.

Universal mover of machines,
In the cathedral of power.

(Marina)
He got a job for me,
(Marina)
In the motor industry.

Come to the country!

Oh, come now lad…
The work ain’t that bad!

(Why don’t you?)
Why don’t you take me to the bathroom?
(Why don’t you?)
Why don’t you lead me up the stairs?
(Why don’t you?)
We’ll get away from this.

(Oh Marina)
Oh you can’t…
(Oh Marina)
Surely you can’t miss?
